We are killing out planet.
That’s just the united stated photoshopped on the moon.
no thats our dying planet have some respect
no that’s the fucking moon you can see the man in the moon gurgling for help beneath the slovenly mass of Big Macs and pickup trucks
Because the United states is tge only country in the world right? Its no strange the the image on the left shows north and south america entirely but the one on the right only shows the continental US?
Nevermind, amurica has absorbed every other nation and is now the only landmass on the planet.
We have to be careful how we talk about Internet communities, and avoid painting with very broad brushes. There are good and bad elements in every community, and first impressions last. We tend to categorize people and groups, however, and it’s a habit we have to actively fight against.
People always say this, but which board is the good one?
It depends on what you’re looking for.
The first thing you need to recognize is that the entire site is 18+. There are “work safe” boards, but even some of the adds can cross into grey lines. As a result, people diving into 4chan need to recognize that they’re wandering into a really strange place.
As with anything, the biggest part of enjoying what content you digest is self moderation. It’s an anonymous board, and there are going to be TONS of garbage. There will be people who will intentionally post rule breaking and offensive things. Those people are dealt with in due time, but while it’s present, every post has the option to be hidden.
Ideally, find an interest you have, and look for the related board. Like comics? go to /co/. Go at different times of the day. It may be an international board but the more niche boards speed up and slow down in accordance with time relative to the US.
Before you post and begin interaction, it’s important to simply read. Spend a few days/week/months just consuming threads so you can learn the culture of various board.
/vg/ is a good example of this. /vg/ is for Video Game Generals. The idea here is that games that have a steady significant amount of discussion will appear here instead of on /v/ with is more scatterbrained and quick n dirty. The threads on /vg/ will go 800+ posts long and typically have a link to the next thread at the end. But each game has its own culture. The Diablo 3 General and the Mass Effect General are essentially their own communities with that one board within that entire site.
As a whole, 4chan is what you take from it. If you sit and focus on all the garbage and grossness that comes from the anonymous internet, it’s going to be a bad time. But if you dig, and have some capacity to just IGNORE things you don’t like (which is something a lot more people really need to do in life and online) you’ll find niches filled with some good people and good times.
I found a group on 4chan’s automotive board /o/ that resulted in some real life friendships and some international buddies. It’s surreal to go on 4chan, get called all sorts of obscenities, find a bunch of like minded people, play video games with them, and then turn around and spend a weekend driving up the east coast to watch a race with someone you met through there.
Much like any part of the internet, and real life, there’s a lot of garbage. But if you can just turn off the reactionary part of your brain and just ignore some blanket bad, you can find some outstandingly positive things.
Literally the most annoying voice acting in-game
